Espérance Dominate to Take Tunisian Throne - Kanzari’s Men Crowned Champions After 5-0 Thrashing
Esperance de Tunis officially secured the Tunisian Ligue 1 title on Sunday with commanding 5 - 0 victory over Olympique Beja in the 29th round of the season.
Early Brilliance, Unstoppable Finish
Brazilian forward Yan Sasse struck twice in the 7 and 42 minute to give Esperance the perfect start. Algerian star Youcef Belaili added the 3rd in the 60 minute before Houssem Tka 68 and Elias Mokwana 76 completed the rout.
Led by coach Maher Kanzari, Esperance moved to 65 point at the top of the table, 4 clear of 2nd placed US Monastir with one game remaining.
Title Sealed Thanks to Monastir Slip
Esperance capitalized on Monastir's 1 - 1 draw with Etoile Metlaoui. Hazem Mastouri put Monastir ahead via a 21 minute penalty but Ahmed Bouassida equalized for Metlaoui in the 66 minute.
34th League Title for the Blood and Gold
This marks Esperance’s 34th league championship denying coach Faouzi Benzarti and Monastir any last round title hopes.
CAF Champions League Race Heats Up
Etoile du Sahel boosted their hopes for continental qualification with 2 - 0 away win over Club Africain, thanks to goals from Mohamed Cherif Camara 47' and Firas Chaouat 58'.
Etoile now sit 3rd with 61 point, level with Monastir but trailing on goal difference. Club Africain remain 4th on 53 point, just 2 ahead of 5th placed ES Zarzis.
