Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo has won the 2025/26 Venezuelan Liga FUTVE Apertura with Carabobo FC.

The 32-year-old dynamic midfielder made nine appearances in the league and a further six in the championship playoffs, scoring two goals with as many assists.

He signed for the Venezuelan outfit on a free transfer in January after he was deemed surplus to requirements at Naturena at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Castillo put pen to paper on a deal that runs until December 2026 in a move that was facilitated by Andrade Sports Group.

The Venezuela international featured in 24 games across all competitions for Carabobo, chipping in with four goals and two assists in the process.

It remains to be seen whether Castillo will pen a contract extension having proved a vital cog in the heart of midfield upon his return to his native country.

Having clinched the championship for two consecutive seasons, Carabobo will be eager to successfully defend their crown yet again in the upcoming term.

Meanwhile, during his spell at Chiefs, the player won the Nedbank Cup title under Nasreddine Nabi last season, albeit played one match in the competition.
