Exclusive Foot Africa: African football has caught up defensively according to Ridha Jeddi

Tunisian coach Ridha Jeddi believes that African football is making up ground in terms of defensive discipline.

In an exclusive statement to Foot Africa, the former coach of Saudi club Al-Okhdood Football Club noted that African national teams have made significant tactical progress.

African football is not stagnating, it is in transition: it has caught up a good part of its defensive and organizational lag, but still needs to improve collective control and offensive variety. The 2025 AFCON or the latest CHAN have shown it: matches are more structured, though sometimes overly cautious. In short: there is true tactical progress, but not yet the consistency and creativity that would make the continent a constant rival to the great European or South American nations.

It's worth remembering that Morocco claimed the latest African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) title with a 3-2 victory over Madagascar in the final.
