Official: Carlos Espi joins Real Madrid

In just a matter of hours, Real Madrid have pulled off the Carlos Espi coup. While the young Spaniard seemed on the verge of a Premier League move, Los Blancos ended the saga by activating the €25 million release clause of the Levante striker.

This is the surprise transfer bombshell of Real Madrid's summer window. Carlos Espi will arrive at the club as the fifth signing for the Madrid giants for a fee of €25 million. The 21-year-old striker joins from Levante, where he netted 13 goals in 28 matches last season.

Brighton and Hull City had both made significant progress in the race, but everything changed overnight. Real Madrid entered the fray with a clear intent to seal the deal swiftly.

Carlos Espi to replace Gonzalo Garcia

With Gonzalo Garcia close to joining Fulham for €40 million, Real Madrid have triggered the €25 million release clause for Carlos Espi.

"Real Madrid CF and Levante UD have agreed on the transfer of player Carlos Espí, who will be tied to our club for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2031. At 21, Carlos Espí played three seasons for Levante, making 66 appearances and scoring 20 goals. Last season, he was named the league's best under-23 player. Carlos Espí is a youth international for Spain at U19 and U20 levels," read an official statement.
