FA Cup to Introduce Pause for Muslim Players to Break Fast During Ramadan
The English Football Association has announced special measure to accommodate Muslim players during the 2025 FA Cup as it coincides with the holy month of Ramadan.
With the Round of 16 set to take place from 28 February to 3 March and Ramadan beginning on 1 March, the FA has decided to implement short pauses during matches to allow Muslim players to break their fast at sunset.
How Will the Pause Work?
According to BBC Sport, the FA will agree on pre determined time for the pause ensuring that Muslim players can break their fast during matches, this pause will not be used as tactical timeout or for players to take additional refreshments.
Muslim Players Expected to Feature in the FA Cup
Several Muslim footballers are set to participate in the competition, including:
- Omar Marmoush & Abdulqadir Khuzanov (Manchester City)
- Noussair Mazraoui (Manchester United)
- Adama Traore (Fulham)
- Miran Muslik (Plymouth Argyle's head coach)
Manchester City will face Plymouth Argyle on 1 March marking one of the key fixtures during this period.
