According to recent reports published by Transfermarkt expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are close to agreeing on the transfer of former Red Devils defender Alvaro Carreras, meaning the English club will receive a percentage of the deal.

Carreras, 22, moved last year from England to Portugal to join Benfica in a deal worth an initial £5 million, with a potential £2.5 million in additional incentives.

Romano explained that the Santiago Bernabeu are close to finalizing the personal terms with Carreras, saying:
“We can confirm that the player's contract is almost ready, as both parties have reached an almost final agreement on the terms of the contract.”

But the surprise was the timing of the deal! The “Transfermarkt expert” indicated that the transfer will not take place until after the Portuguese Cup final between Benfica and Sporting this week, as Carreras will wait until the end of the match to officially announce to Benfica that he wants to leave for the Spanish capital.

For their part, Real Madrid seem to respect the Portuguese club's stance, avoiding any official moves to sign a player before a crucial match!
