FIFA Confirms U.S. Taxes on Club World Cup Bonuses: Al Ahly to Lose Up to 20%

A senior source inside Al Ahly SC's revealed that the Egyptian giants have received official letter from FIFA confirming that U.S tax laws will apply to Club World cup 2025 bonuses.

Historic Tax on FIFA Club World Cup Prizes

According to Cairo 24, the letter informed Al Ahly that the Internal Revenue Service IRS will deduct between 15% & 20% from the prize money awarded during the 2025 tournament in the United States.

Al Ahly's set to earn initial amount of 9.5 million dollar for their participation in the revamped 32 team tournament with the figure potentially rising based on performance.

Unprecedented Move in FIFA Tournaments

This marks the 1st time in fifa history that prize money distributed to clubs will be subject to income tax from the host country. Previous tournaments operated without such deductions.

Al Ahly Eyeing Glory on U.S. Soil

The African powerhouse qualified for the Club World cup 2025 by winning the CAF Champions league in 2020 – 21, 2022 – 23 and 2023 – 24 securing their place as one of Africa’s top contenders.

The Cairo based club has been drawn into challenging group that includes:

  • Inter Miami (USA) - led by Lionel Messi
  • Palmeiras (Brazil) - 2021 Copa Libertadores champions
  • FC Porto (Portugal) - European powerhouse

With high stakes and global spotlight, Al Ahly will be hoping to make history on and off the pitch.
