From Courtroom to Bernabeu? Alonso’s Name Cleared in Tax Battle
Xabi Alonso, the current head coach of Bayer Leverkusen & former Real Madrid midfielder, has won legal battle against the Spanish tax authorities.
Court Overturns Tax Office Decision
Spain’s National Court sided with Alonso overturning 2021 ruling by the Central Economic Administrative Court that'd upheld 288,507.58 EURO claim against him for unpaid income tax and fines related to the year 2012.
The dispute centered on payments made by Real Madrid to Alonso’s agent which the tax authority had classified as part of the player’s income.
The court rejected this, stating that the administrative body had "overstepped its authority" in attributing the agent’s earnings to Alonso himself.
A Clean Record as Bigger Roles Await
This legal victory comes amid growing speculation that Alonso could return to Real Madrid as head coach potentially replacing Carlo Ancelotti who's strongly linked with the brazil national team job.
Legacy at Real Madrid
Between 2009 & 2014, Alonso played 236 match for Los Blancos scoring 6 goal and providing 31 assist.
He helped the team win 5 major titles including the 2014 Champions league and the 2011 /12 la liga crown.
