From Tense Talks to Title Glory: Salah on Loyalty, Legacy & Hungry Future

Mohamed Salah's opened up about the tense negotiations behind his Liverpool contract renewal and his unshaken dream of winning the Ballon d’Or.
"Yes, Leaving Was Possible"
In interview with France Football, Salah admitted that his contract talks with Liverpool were complicated. With his previous deal expiring in 2025, rumors of Saudi switch or move to PSG grew louder.
“Leaving was possible , It was strange - we were having great season but negotiations were tough. In the end, things worked out. We’re champions and I’m staying for 2 more seasons” He said.
Career Best Season Sparked by Uncertainty
Salah revealed that the uncertainty surrounding his future pushed him to deliver his best statistical season yet.
“I told myself: if they don’t renew I’ll leave in the best way possible. That mindset pushed me to win the PL and deliver everything I had”
Praise for Arne Slot’s Impact
The Egyptian star praised new coach Arne Slot’s immediate influence at Anfield, calling him “direct and open”
“Arne met me early in preseason and asked me to be role model. I told him not to worry - that’s just who I am” Salah said.
Comparing Slot to former manager Jurgen Klopp, he noted:
“With Klopp, we were too comfortable at the end. Arne brought competition back. He and his staff opened up emotionally and that helped my performance”
Ballon d’Or Ambitions: "It’s for Egypt"
Salah's clear about his desire to win the Ballon d’or but not just for himself.
“I want it for my people. Growing up in small egyptian village, dreaming of the Ballon d’Or was nearly impossible. But even if I don’t win it, my career's already success”
At 32, Salah remains hungry:
“Next season will be massive defending the Premier League title, Champions League, AFCON and even dreaming of the World Cup. You know me , I want to win everything”
On Sadio Mane: "I Created 18 Goals for Him"
Salah also addressed old claims of selfishness in his partnership with former teammate Sadio Mane.
“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. But just remember , I assisted 18 of Mane’s goals. There were tensions, sure but we always stayed professional” he ended.
