Ghana: concern grows over Douglas Owusu's physical condition

Douglas Owusu's physical condition is causing serious concern just weeks before the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old Ghanaian attacking midfielder was reportedly provisionally rejected during his medical with Viktoria Plzeň after a knee issue was detected.

According to Czech outlet Denik Sport, this anomaly discovered during the mandatory medical exams has cast major doubt over his potential move to the Czech club. Further assessments are now expected to determine the exact severity of the physical problem.

A knee issue threatening his transfer

While an agreement was reportedly already in place between Red Star Belgrade and Viktoria Plzeň for a fee estimated at €4.3 million, the deal is now on hold.

The Czech club's management is said to be reluctant to proceed with the transfer until the player's health situation is fully clarified. It's a frustrating scenario for Douglas Owusu, who had been preparing to open a new chapter in his career in Central Europe.

A highly successful season nonetheless

Before this medical scare, the player developed at Asekem Football Club was coming off an impressive campaign. The former FK Radnik Surdulica winger featured in 33 matches across all competitions in the 2025/26 season, tallying 9 goals and 1 assist.

His performances had convinced Viktoria Plzeň to bet on him to strengthen their squad ahead of next season. While awaiting the results of further examinations, Douglas Owusu's future remains uncertain.
