Guinea: Is the Syli National collapsing under Michel Dussuyer?
In a matter of months, the Guinean national team has gone from dream to nightmare. Since Michel Dussuyer's return, the Syli National has bid farewell to the 2025 AFCON. Worse still, their qualification for the 2026 World Cup now seems out of reach.
A disastrous record in three matches
The reality is harsh for the Syli National's recent outings: three matches, zero victories, zero goals scored, two defeats, and a worrying draw against Somalia (202nd in the FIFA rankings). The latest setback against Uganda (1-0) highlighted all the flaws in this Guinean team. Michel Dussuyer acknowledged after the match:
We lacked everything. No intensity, technical errors, and a defense suffering against the Ugandans' vertical play.
An admission of powerlessness that reflects the Syli National's struggles, outpaced in all areas of the game.
An already compromised future?
While the defense showed signs of frailty, the attack is completely non-existent. Three matches without a single goal, a worrying offensive sterility. The forwards are lacking inspiration, and substitutions bring no solution. "It's the players who have to make the difference on the field," insisted Dussuyer, aware that tactical choices are not enough.
With 7 points in six games, Guinea drops to 4th place in Group G, far behind Algeria (15 pts) and Mozambique (12 pts). Uganda (9 pts) also moves ahead. The road to the 2026 World Cup is almost blocked. Can Michel Dussuyer turn things around? Or are we already witnessing the end of his journey at the helm of the Syli National?
