Although there are plenty of press reports linking Espanyol goalkeeper Juan Garcia to Barcelona, other press reports indicate that German coach Hans Flick wants the club's priority to be signing a player for the left wing position, regardless of the Catalan club's urgent need to sign a new player in the goalkeeping position.

The signing of a new keeper was not in the presence of the Portuguese Deco!

According to reports from Diario Sport, Barcelona's board of directors recently held a meeting to discuss potential signings, with the possibility of bringing in a new goalkeeper being a key topic. Notably, sporting director Deco was absent from this discussion.

Prior to this meeting, manager Hansi Flick and Deco had already held talks following the end of the season, where they outlined their main objectives: securing contract extensions for crucial squad members and, if finances allow, pursuing a left winger as a secondary priority.

The latest board meeting, however, suggests a shift in focus, with the club now considering reinforcements in goal—a move that appears to deviate from Flick and Deco's initial plans.

What names are prioritized for the left wing position!

Hansi Flick and Deco have reportedly made signing a left-sided attacker their "absolute priority," with Liverpool's Luis Díaz and Manchester United's Marcus Rashford emerging as their top targets. Both players have been long admired by the Barcelona hierarchy, and the club is keen to explore a move for either forward if finances permit.

In contrast, the goalkeeping position does not appear to be a pressing concern for Flick. With Marc-André ter Stegen fully fit again, the manager sees no urgent need to bring in a new shot-stopper—a view shared by Deco. While the club recognizes that Espanyol’s Joan García represents a solid market opportunity, Flick remains firm in his stance, prioritizing other areas of the squad.

Financial constraints mean Barcelona cannot address every position they would like, forcing Flick and Deco to focus on key reinforcements. However, recent reports suggesting the club is nearing a deal for García have raised eyebrows, as they seemingly contradict the sporting leadership’s stated plans. If accurate, this could signal internal disagreements over transfer strategy—or simply an opportunistic move that doesn’t disrupt their primary objectives.
