Has Petković found the key to success with the Fennecs?
Swiss coach Vladimir Petković is experiencing a prosperous period at the helm of the Algerian national team, stringing together successes and victories since taking charge of the Fennecs.
Under his leadership, the national team shows a marked improvement, driven by profound changes in composition and style of play. Offensive efficiency has emerged as one of the major strengths of this new era.
Petković more offensive than Belmadi?
According to the specialized site Sofascore, Vladimir Petković has surpassed his predecessor Djamel Belmadi, nicknamed the Minister of Happiness, in offensive prowess during his early days with Algeria.
Indeed, under the Swiss technician's orders, the Fennecs have scored 33 goals in 12 matches, averaging 2.75 goals per game. In comparison, Belmadi's Algeria had only scored 20 goals over the same period, with an average of 1.67 goals per match.
However, the defensive advantage goes to Belmadi, whose team conceded only 7 goals in his first 12 matches, compared to 12 goals conceded under Petković's direction.
The challenges ahead
Vladimir Petković aims to build a dominant Algerian team capable of competing on the continental and international stage. His main objectives include the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Morocco, and qualification for the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
