Incredible punishment: goalkeeper handed a 30-year suspension!
A rare incident has rocked amateur football in France. In the Indre-et-Loire district, a goalkeeper from US Montbazon has been handed a 30-year suspension by the disciplinary committee following an act of extreme violence against a referee, as revealed by L'Equipe this Friday. Here’s a closer look:
The shocking event unfolded on March 2 during a district second division clash between Montbazon and Luynes. Following a controversial goal, several Montbazon players fiercely protested the decision.
The goalkeeper, who initially tried to calm things down, completely lost control. He first shoved the referee, then returned and launched himself at the official, feet first!
An act with severe consequences!
The fallout was immediate and serious. The referee, injured in the incident, filed a complaint and was prescribed nine days of total incapacity for work. In the aftermath, the coach resigned and the club president withdrew the first team from all competitions.
The district authorities responded with a firm hand. President Philippe Gallé explained: "We don't want uncontrollable people in Touraine football." Another player was suspended for three years, and the team was docked seven points despite its withdrawal from competition.
This shock decision could well set a precedent for other districts across the country.
