Ireland 1-1 Senegal: Pape Thiaw pleased with his players’ response
Interview
Before facing England next Tuesday, the Lions of Teranga narrowly avoided defeat in Dublin. Trailing from the first half against a well-organized Irish side, Senegal responded in the second half thanks to a goal from Ismaila Sarr (1-1). It’s a promising draw for Pape Thiaw.
The national coach praised his players’ attitude after the match:
It was a tough match. Ireland put us under pressure. But as I mentioned on the eve of the game, these kinds of occasions are useful to fix things and bring something new.
With a reshuffled line-up and several key players on the bench, the Senegalese coach was keen to clear up any confusion about a rigid team hierarchy:
This isn’t a first-choice or second-choice team. All the players were ready. The decisions were made based on the moment. They showed they were here and deserved to play.
Now, a new challenge awaits: England, Tuesday, June 10 at City Ground.
