La Liga: Inaki Williams named best African player of the season!
Inaki Williams has just been named the best African player of the 2024-2025 season in La Liga. The Ghanaian Black Stars and Athletic Bilbao star striker, last year's winner as well, has pulled off an unprecedented double in the history of this award.
The 30-year-old Ghanaian sharpshooter played a pivotal role in Bilbao's impressive campaign this season. Securing a solid fourth place in the standings, the Basque club clinched a UEFA Champions League spot—thanks in large part to their prolific frontman.
Williams featured in 35 league matches, starting 29 of them, and netted 6 goals while providing 8 assists. He finished as the team's top assist provider and third-leading scorer, but above all, it was his consistent influence on the pitch that truly made the difference.
Second consecutive crown for Inaki Williams
This individual accolade further cements his rising status in Spanish football. The Bilbao native becomes the first player to win this trophy twice in a row since its inception.
Behind him, the podium is rounded out by Senegalese midfielder Pape Gueye (Villarreal) and Cameroonian defender Enzo Boyomo (Osasuna), both of whom also shone this season.
With this achievement, Williams further etches his name into the history of African players in Spain's prestigious La Liga.
