Ligue 2: Lorient and its African players promoted to Ligue 1
On the pitch of the Moustoir, FC Lorient outclassed SM Caen with a resounding 4-0 victory, securing their ticket to Ligue 1 as early as the 32nd matchday of Ligue 2. The promotion mission set at the beginning of the season was brilliantly accomplished by Régis Le Bris's men.
After being held to a draw last weekend by FC Annecy (0-0), the Merlus managed to bounce back this Saturday and clinch the victory needed to mark their return to the top division. Powered by their scorers Mohamed Bamba (16th), Eli Junior Kroupi (23rd), and Sambou Soumano (78th, 93rd), FC Lorient dominated their opponent to ascend to Ligue 1.
FC Lorient returns to the French elite thanks to its roster of talented, effective, and dynamic players. Among them are several Africans who have contributed to the club's success this season. This includes Senegalese Sambou Soumano, the team's second top scorer (12 goals) behind Eli Junior Kroupi (20 goals), who is the 5th top scorer in Ligue 2 and the 3rd highest African scorer in the tournament.
