Liverpool Replace Alexander-Arnold with Bundesliga Champion Jeremie Frimpong
Liverpool've completed the signing of Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday, swiftly reinforcing the right back position following Trent Alexander Arnold’s move to Real Madrid.
Frimpong Returns to England After 6 Years
The 24 year old defender joins Liverpool on what the club described as "long term contract" marking his return to England after leaving Man City in 2019. Frimpong spent 9 year in City's youth ranks but never featured in PL match.
After moving to Celtic, he later made name for himself at Leverkusen where he became standout performer under Xabi Alonso known for his attacking surges from deep.
Statement Signing & Tactical Fit
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Frimpong said:
"It all went very smoothly. Liverpool came in and wanted me , I didn’t even have to think about it"
Frimpong becomes Liverpool’s first signing of the summer window ahead of the 2025 - 26 season and is widely seen as stylistic successor to Alexander Arnold.
His dynamic attack minded play mirrors that of the england star who ended 20 year spell at Anfield with blockbuster switch to Spain.
Bundesliga Champion Now Set for Anfield Challenge
Frimpong arrives with high pedigree, having been key figure in Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten domestic double in the 2023 - 24 season, winning both the Bundesliga & DFB Pokal without single loss.
Liverpool hope his arrival will spark a new era under their evolving project as they look to bounce back in both domestic & european competitions.
