Born on April 12, 1969, the iconic captain of the 90s Bafana Bafana, Lucas Radebe, also known as "The Chief," celebrates his 56th birthday.
To talk about the rich career of South African rock Lucas Radebe is to mention two prestigious jerseys: the yellow of Bafana Bafana and the white of the British stable Leeds United.
An example of loyalty and devotion, which have become rare in the world of football, the Soweto native was not only a talented defender but also a charismatic leader.
With the captain's armband, he led the "Whites" into the UEFA Champions League during the 1999-2000 season, reaching the semi-finals alongside the illustrious Harry Kewell, Rio Ferdinand, and Olivier Dacourt.

Captain of the 'Bafana Bafana' during the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, the man with 70 caps for South Africa was also part of the 1996 AFCON, won by his team in their first appearance in an international competition after the end of Apartheid.
Nicknamed The Chief, Radebe is today considered the greatest South African defender of all time, alongside Mark Fish. In 2004, he was ranked 54th in a list of the "100 Greatest South Africans."
