Manchester United: Dibu Martinez closing in as Onana edges closer to exit
Andre Onana

Manchester United’s decision-makers are planning a revamp of the squad. New arrivals are on the agenda, and some players are expected to depart. André Onana could be one of the casualties of this looming overhaul.

Having arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2023 from Inter Milan, André Onana was considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the time of his transfer. After two seasons in England, the Cameroonian keeper looks set for a summer exit.

André Onana remains vague about his United future

As speculation mounts regarding his potential departure, Onana himself has been particularly noncommittal on the matter. The Cameroonian goalkeeper, who was in Burkina Faso for a charity event last weekend, was asked about his future at Old Trafford. His rather cryptic answer has been interpreted by some observers as a sign that he could soon be on his way out. "Will I leave? I don’t know, we’ll see!" he said.

According to the British press, the club has put the player’s house up for sale in a bid to push him towards the exit. If André Onana’s departure is confirmed, his successor already seems lined up. Manchester United are targeting Emiliano Martínez, currently playing for Aston Villa.

The Argentine goalkeeper, a 2022 World Cup winner, continues to impress at Aston Villa. With 213 appearances and a host of clean sheets, Martinez would be the ideal solution to restore stability between the posts for United.
