Manchester United Fans Plan Major Protest as Glazers’ 20-Year Ownership Anniversary Approaches
A section of Manchester United fans's planning major protest against the Glazer family's ownership as the 20th anniversary of the controversial takeover approaches.
Two Decades of Anger
According to the UK’s PA Media, the Glazers first acquired majority control of the club on 12 May 2005 sparking immediate and long lasting outrage among fans. The full takeover was completed on 29 Jun of that year.
The fan group "The 1958" confirmed plans for walkout protest during United’s final league game against Aston Villa on 25 May. The group released fiery statement:
“May 2005 was one of the darkest days in United’s history. The Glazers have never been welcome & never will be”
Protests Continue in Dismal Season
The upcoming protest follows similar scenes during matches against Arsenal & Man City, amid what has been disastrous season domestically. United currently sit 16th in the PL and are set to face Tottenham in the Europa League final.
Details of the Aston Villa protest will be announced in the coming days with fan unrest reaching boiling point as the club’s decline continues.
