Manqoba Mngqithi masterminded a thumping win as Young Africans beat Coastal Union 4-1 in the NBC Tanzania Premier League on Thursday.

Albert Kangwanda opened the scoring for the defending champions in the 39th minute, before Maxi Nzengeli doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time.

Coastal Union were reduced to 10 men two minutes into the second stanza, allowing Yanga to make it 3-0 through Mudathir Yahya in the 50th minute.

The visitors pulled one back in the 78th minute thanks to Lassa Gradi Kiala, but the hosts made it 4-1 through Mohamed Husseini deep in stoppage time.

Yanga, as a result, climbed to the summit of the table, level on six points with fierce rivals, Steve Barker's Simba SC, who have an inferior goal difference.

Notably, Mngqithi and his troops began their 2026/27 league campaign with a commanding 3-1 victory at the expense of Namungo FC.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor is yet to lose a match in charge of TimuYaWananchi, having clinched the Community Shield in his first game.

He has been tasked with retaining the league title, winning domestic cup titles, and mounting a deep run in the prestigious CAF Champions League.

Yanga, meanwhile, return to action with a visit from JKT Tanzania in the NBC Premier League as they gun for a sixth consecutive championship.
