Marcus Thuram to Yamal: "The best player in the world is French"
Interview
Marcus Thuram didn’t just let his skills do the talking on the pitch Wednesday night against FC Barcelona. After netting a brilliant goal in the very first minute of the Champions League semi-final first leg (3-3), the Inter Milan striker also made headlines off the field, this time commenting on the performance of young Lamine Yamal.
Speaking to Canal+ in the mixed zone, Marcus Thuram was asked about the Barcelona sensation, who scored a stunning goal and became the youngest ever scorer at this stage of the competition. But the French international didn’t get swept up in the hype.
"I don’t think he’s the best player in the world. The best is French, and so is the second best," he declared, before naming Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé without hesitation. Two names that, in his view, still embody the current supremacy of French football. That’s sure to raise the stakes ahead of the return leg.
