Marmoush Defies Guardiola's Orders in City’s Win Over Everton, Now Faces One-on-One Training
Manchester City’s 2 - 0 win over Everton on Saturday kept them in the top four of the PL but all was not well behind the scenes especially regarding egyptian forward Omar Marmoush.
According to sources close to the club including Manchester Evening News (MEN) Marmoush defied tactical instructions given to him by manager Pep Guardiola nearly costing City vital win.
Pep’s Orders Ignored?
Before kickoff, Guardiola was seen animatedly demonstrating movements to Marmoush instructing him on how to position himself between Everton’s central defenders.
But the 26 year old failed to implement those directions staying too wide and too far from goal for much of the game.
This limited his attacking threat with Marmoush registering minimal impact in front of Jordan Pickford’s goal throughout the match.
Despite Marmoush’s muted display, City broke the deadlock late:
- 84: Nico O’Reilly, the young fullback, opened the scoring with crucial breakthrough.
- 90+2: Mateo Kovacic sealed the result with second securing all 3 points at Goodison Park.
The win took City to 58 point, firmly in fourth place, as the race for champions league qualification heats up.
Guardiola Plans One on One Training
Guardiola reportedly plans private training session with Marmoush to revisit the tactics and expectations.
With Erling Haaland out injured, the Spanish boss sees Marmoush as key figure in the run in and wants him aligned with the system.
Marmoush joined Man City from Eintracht Frankfurt in Jan 2025 for reported 75 million euro, becoming the second most expensive sale in the German club’s history.
He's 7 goals and 1 assist in 15 match so far a solid return but tactical discipline remains under scrutiny.
Next Up -- Aston Villa Showdown
City’s next test comes against Aston Villa on 22 Apr, high stakes clash in Matchday 34.
With Haaland still out, all eyes will be on Marmoush to deliver but this time on Guardiola’s terms.
