Kylian Mbappé edges ever closer to World Cup greatness. Against Iraq, the French forward struck twice, bringing his tally to an impressive 16 goals in the history of the tournament.

With this brace, the Les Bleus captain joins Miroslav Klose, the former German record holder at the competition’s summit. Mbappé first found the net in the opening half, then capitalized on a poor defensive clearance to score again after the break.

Set up by Ousmane Dembélé, the Real Madrid star once again proved his efficiency on the biggest stage. The Frenchman, however, still trails Lionel Messi, who now stands at 18 World Cup goals. But at just 27, Mbappé still has several opportunities to break that record and become the all-time top scorer in World Cup history (Lionel Messi with 18 goals).
