After suffering a left thigh injury on April 17 against Atlético Mineiro, Neymar Jr. is on the verge of rejoining the Santos FC squad. Recent medical tests indicate positive progress, and the player could soon return to full team training. The medical staff is targeting an early June comeback to competitive action.

Upon his return, the former Parisian is expected to feature in just two matches—against Botafogo on June 1 and Fortaleza on June 12—before the break for the FIFA Club World Cup and, more crucially, before his current contract with the club expires. Signed in January 2025 for six months, his deal is set to run out on June 30, 2025.

Since returning to his boyhood club Santos FC, Neymar has played in nine matches, logging 587 minutes, with a tally of three goals and three assists. However, recurring muscle injuries have limited his time on the pitch. Despite these setbacks, discussions between the player and club management are ongoing regarding a possible contract extension, potentially until 2027. Santos president Marcelo Teixeira has publicly stated his desire for Neymar to stay at least until the summer of 2026.
