Exclusive
The American club Inter Miami issued an official statement on Tuesday, March 18, to update the status of their Argentine star, Lionel Messi.
Messi was injured during the match between Inter Miami and Atlanta United on Monday night, just hours before the official announcement of the Argentine national team squad for the international break in March.
The club stated in its communiqué: "Messi underwent an MRI scan this morning to assess the intensity of the pain in the adductor region, which he felt during last night's match against Atlanta United."
They added: "The results of the scan confirmed a slight adductor injury. His response to treatment will determine his availability to return to competition."
Emotional message from Messi to Argentina players
Meanwhile, the absent captain sent a message of support and motivation to his teammates via a story on his Instagram account, in which he wrote:
"I'm sorry to miss these two very important matches with the national team against Uruguay and Brazil."
He added:
"I would have liked to be there as usual, but a small injury forced me to step away for a short while before returning to play, which keeps me off the field."
It should be noted that Lionel Scaloni's team will face Uruguay on Saturday, March 22, before hosting their eternal rival, Brazil, on Wednesday, March 26, as part of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
