Official: Victor Wanyama has found a club in Europe
Victor Wanyama makes his grand return to Europe. After four seasons at CF Montreal, where he played 117 matches and scored five goals, the former captain of Kenya has signed with Dunfermline Athletic, a Scottish second division club.
The defensive midfielder reunites with a familiar face: Neil Lennon, his former manager at Celtic Glasgow, who took charge of Dunfermline five days ago. Together, they enjoyed success between 2011 and 2013, winning two Scottish championships and a national cup, not to mention their runs in the Champions League.
But this time, the challenge is quite different. Dunfermline is fighting for its survival in the Championship. Currently 9th out of 10, the club occupies a playoff spot for relegation, only two points behind Hamilton, the first team out of danger. Wanyama, who has signed until the end of the season, will have six matches to help his club avoid the drop. His first challenge awaits him on Saturday, March 29, with a perilous trip to Ayr United, the third-place team in the league.
