Once undecided, Felix Agu now awaits a call-up from the Nigerian national team
Born in Osnabrück to a Nigerian father and a German mother, Felix Agu spent a long time torn between the two national teams. The right-back featured for Germany’s U23s in 2019, but has never been called up to the senior squad.
He has now decided to turn towards Nigeria, the country of his roots. He has made it clear that he wants to play for the Super Eagles. After an impressive season with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga (3 goals, 19 matches), the dual-national has sent a clear signal to Eric Chelle. The Super Eagles’ coach is considering bringing in new faces for the friendly tournament in June, and Agu is among the potential contenders to bolster the team’s defense.
“He will certainly honor the call-up. That much is clear, and he won’t be affected by the issues that will prevent others from joining the tournament, since the German league ends on May 17—ten days before Nigeria’s opening match against Ghana,” said a close associate of Felix Agu.
For the record, the Nigerian national team will face Ghana on May 28 in the Unity Cup 2025 friendly tournament in England, followed by a clash against Russia on June 6, 2025. Felix Agu could make his Super Eagles debut during these encounters.
