Orlando Pirates get good news on one of their targets in the market

Orlando Pirates fans seem to love the news coming out of Mayfair, and after a season without signings, it looks like the fans should get ready for a summer market that is as hot as the names arriving for the Buccaneers as well.

Orlando Pirates continue to look for the best names currently available in the summer market, because the last market did not manage to sign any new deal and the management must compensate the fans in the next market as well.

Reports suggest Orlando Pirates are on the verge of finalizing a deal for Polokwane City right-back Thabang Matuludi.

If the move materializes, the Buccaneers would be acquiring one of Polokwane City’s key players, continuing a trend of Soweto giants raiding the Limpopo-based club for talent.

According to sources, negotiations are at an advanced stage, with Pirates looking to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new season. Matuludi, known for his solid performances in the DStv Premiership, could soon follow in the footsteps of other Polokwane City players who have made the jump to bigger clubs.

Who will be Rivero's replacement?

With Jose Riveiro's unexpected departure after the Nedbank Cup final defeat to Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates remain tight-lipped about their next head coach. Among the names in the frame is former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor Rulani Mokwena, sparking debate among supporters.

Club icon Lucky Lekgwathi weighed in on the situation, emphasizing the need for a coach who can elevate the team's performance.

"Personally, I don’t mind who takes over—as long as they push the team forward," Lekgwathi said. "Look at Sundowns: Rulani left, they brought in someone new, and that coach just won the league and reached the Champions League final. We made the semis this season—next year, we need a coach who can take us all the way while fixing our league consistency issues."

The ex-Pirates captain also called for unity among fans, recalling how Riveiro was initially mocked before proving his worth.

"When Jose arrived, people called him a 'plumber,' but we backed him, and he became one of our best coaches. So whoever comes next—plumber, carpenter, or whatever—we must support them. That’s how success happens."

As the Buccaneers weigh their options, the focus remains on securing a leader capable of closing the gap on Sundowns and delivering silverware.
