Osimhen Falters as Galatasaray Stumble Against Besiktas, Title Hopes in Jeopardy
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen played the full 90 minute but couldn’t prevent Galatasaray from suffering 2 - 1 defeat to Besiktas in the Istanbul Derby at the Tupras Stadium.
Besiktas Takes the Edge
The match started slowly but Rafa Silva put Besiktas ahead in the 23r minute. Galatasaray’s problems worsened when Przemyslaw Frankowski saw red in the 36 minute. Despite being a man down, the Lions fought back with Lucas Torreira equalizing just before halftime.
Osimhen struggled in the 1st half but was more active after the break recording 4 goal attempts though none found the net. Gedson Fernandes sealed the win for Besiktas in the 66t minute, handing Galatasaray their 1st league loss of the season.
Osimhen’s Controversy
After the match, Osimhen was seen making offensive gesture towards Besiktas fans, forcing teammates to escort him off the pitch. Turkish media reports suggest he could face suspension which would be huge blow for Galatasaray.
Title Race Heats Up!
Despite the loss, Galatasaray still lead the Super Lig with 71 point but Fenerbahce are 6 point behind with a game in hand. If Fenerbahce win, the title race could become even more intense.
Osimhen remains the league’s top scorer with 20 goal and Galatasaray will need him to step up in the crucial final stretch of the season.
