Premier League: Yoane Wissa, it's historic!

Yoane Wissa continues to shine in the Queen's land! With his 19th goal of the season against Fulham on Sunday, the Congolese winger for Brentford has now joined Mohamed Salah atop the Premier League 2024/25 non-penalty goals leaderboard.

Capitalizing on a dangerous long throw from Michael Kayode, Wissa found the net from close range, once again highlighting his predatory instincts in the box. Earlier in the match, he also set up Bryan Mbeumo for a goal. Video:

Despite his superb display, Brentford ultimately fell 3-2, undone by two goals from opposition substitutes.

A standout season for Wissa

With his 19 open-play goals, Wissa even edges out stars like Erling Haaland (21 goals, including 2 penalties) and Alexander Isak (23 goals, including 4 penalties), both also with 19 non-penalty goals.

The ever-reliable Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, has netted 28 times, but 9 of those have come from the penalty spot.

Is the Wissa-Mbeumo duo unstoppable?

Wissa now has his sights set on a symbolic milestone: reaching 20 goals. If his teammate Mbeumo does the same in the final match against Wolverhampton, the two could join a very exclusive club.

Since 1992, only four duos have each scored 20 or more goals in a single Premier League season: Andy Cole & Peter Beardsley (1992/93), Didier Drogba & Frank Lampard (2009/10), Luis Suarez & Daniel Sturridge (2013/14), and Sadio Mane & Salah (2018/19).
