Prison sentence for former Egypt international!
The former defender of the Egyptian national team, Ali Ghazal, is experiencing a dramatic downfall! A round of 16 participant at the 2019 AFCON hosted on home soil, the 33-year-old has been handed a prison sentence for fraud and writing bad checks, according to several local media outlets.
Having transitioned to coaching at Ra SC in July 2024, after officially hanging up his boots a year earlier, Ghazal is accused of defrauding footballers and businessmen for an amount exceeding 7 million Egyptian pounds, which is over 124,000 euros.
A dark end to a footballing journey
Trained at Wadi Degla, the Aswan native tried his luck in Europe with CD Nacional in Portugal before signing for Guizhou Zhicheng in China.
After a brief Asian stint, he returned briefly to Portugal, then had unremarkable spells at AEL Larissa (Greece), Smouha, El Makasa, and once again at Wadi Degla.
This case has sparked reactions from several local football figures, including Smouha striker Hossam Hassan, who posted on his story: “No right is ever lost when someone demands it.”
A truly dark chapter at the end of the former Pharaoh’s career.
