Foot Africa has learnt that newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Hope FC have completed the signing of Lyle Lakay on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old left-back was unattached after parting ways with Betway Premiership side Siwelele FC at the end of last season after his contract was not renewed.

He made a total of 10 appearances in the previous campaign, with head coach Lehlohonolo Seema preferring Neo Rapoo and Aphiwe Baliti ahead of him.

While Siwelele have sanctioned the sale of the aforementioned left-backs to Orlando Pirates, although the latter will remain at the club on loan, Lakay was deemed surplus.

Now, sources have confirmed to this publication that the former Mamelodi Sundowns utility player is set to return to the Mother City with Hope FC.

With over 400 appearances and 26 goals coupled with 55 assists, Lakay is expected to bring experience and stability in the defence of the PSL newcomers.

Having won eight trophies, including five league titles, one Carling Knockout Cup, Nedbank Cup and the MTN8, Lakay's signing will undoubtedly instill a winning mentality.

Meanwhile, Hope FC have already announced the signings of Selwyn Stevens, Tyler Cicero, Tauric Gamildien, and Brandon Theron, among others.

The Cape club gained promotion to the second-tier by virtue of beating North West Soccer Institute in the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs final last month.

Notably, Hope FC parted ways with head coach Dylan Deane upon securing a spot in the professional ranks, raising eyebrows ahead of their debut in the NFD.
