Pyramids Burned by Al Ahly’s Last-Minute Fury: Egyptian PL Title Race Explodes

In thrilling encounter at the Defense Ministry Stadium in Cairo, Pyramids were held to 1 - 1 draw by Al Ahly in the 2nd round of the Egyptian Premier League title phase.

Chibi Puts Pyramids Ahead

The match saw both sides exchange early attempts with Pyramids looking dangerous in the 1st half. However it was Al Ahly who came closest to opening the scoring with Wessam Abou Ali’s header hitting the crossbar in stoppage time.

The game took dramatic turn in the 59 minute when Pyramids’ Mohanad Lasheen was sent off after receiving 2nd yellow card leaving the home team with 10 men. Despite the disadvantage, Pyramids took the lead in the 86 minute with Moroccan fullback Mohamed Chibi unleashing powerful shot from outside the box that found the back of the net giving Pyramids 1 - 0 lead.

Al Ahly’s Late Response

Al Ahly, however were not done yet. With the clock ticking down, they managed to salvage point deep into injury time. In the 90 +5 minute, midfielder Ahmed Reda struck stunning shot from the edge of the area that beat Pyramids’ goalkeeper Ahmed Shennawy ensuring dramatic equalizer for the Red Devils.

Frustration & Tension on the Touchline

The final minutes saw tension escalate especially after heated exchange between Pyramids coach Krunoslav Jurčić and Al Ahly’s Emam Ashour. Despite the frustration both teams were forced to settle for share of the spoils.

Current Standings:

• Pyramids 44 points
• Al Ahly 40 points

With this draw Pyramids remain at the top of the table while Al Ahly stay in 2nd place, 4 point behind. Pyramids maintain unbeaten run that stretches back 15 match, dating back to their 1 - 0 loss to Al Masry in Round 4.

This result adds further excitement to the title race with both teams looking strong as the season progresses.
