Riyad Mahrez reveals his next mission after the AFC Champions League
On the evening of Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Al-Ahli SC etched its name in continental history by clinching the AFC Champions League trophy for the very first time. Facing Kawasaki Frontale, the Saudi side triumphed 2-0 thanks to goals from Galeno and Franck Kessié.
After Europe, Riyad Mahrez makes history in Asia
Riyad Mahrez dazzled throughout the tournament with nine goals and eight assists in thirteen matches. As his team’s top scorer in this campaign, the Algerian international joins a select group of players who have won both the UEFA Champions League and the AFC Champions League, alongside teammates Edouard Mendy and Roberto Firmino.
“Every match was tough, whether it was in the group stage or the knockout rounds. We faced strong teams and others less so, but every time, we imposed our style. Winning the title at home, in front of our supporters, it’s an indescribable feeling. Each trophy has its own unique flavor. Whether it was with Algeria at AFCON 2019, with Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League in 2023, or now with Al-Ahli. These are different competitions, on different continents, with different emotions,” Mahrez shared after the triumph.
Renewed ambition with Algeria
After this continental triumph, Mahrez isn’t planning to stop there. The Fennecs’ captain has made it clear he wants to add another title with the Algerian national team.
“Algerian supporters are my brothers, I know they’re always behind me. Now, I have a mission to accomplish with the national team. I want to win another title with Algeria, because what I feel wearing this jersey is beyond words,” he declared.
