Romano: Onana targeted by several Saudi clubs!
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, a transfer market specialist and collaborator with Sky Sport, has revealed that several clubs from the Saudi Pro League continue to show strong interest in Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana, the Manchester United shot-stopper, with a potential transfer in view during the next summer window.
Romano wrote on his official account on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter):
" 🚨 Clubs from the Saudi Pro League were already eager to recruit André Onana in the summer of 2023, but the goalkeeper only wanted to join Manchester United.
The interest remains active as the summer window approaches; no decision has been made yet, while Onana hopes to regain his starting position with #MUFC against Lyon".
Onana in turmoil: Saudi clubs on the lookout!
The Red Devils' goalkeeper is currently going through a challenging period in his career. He finds himself at the center of a wave of criticism, notably after his costly mistakes during the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Olympique Lyonnais. These errors led coach Ruben Amorim to bench him during the last Premier League match against Newcastle United.
These mistakes deprived Manchester United of a valuable victory, with the club conceding a goal in the final seconds, leading to a frustrating draw (2-2).
Since his arrival at Old Trafford, André Onana had never missed a single Premier League match, stringing together 69 consecutive starts. But this streak ended during the match against Newcastle, which resulted in a heavy defeat (4-1) in favor of the Magpies.
It's worth noting that Onana is tied to Manchester United by a contract running until the end of June 2028. Nevertheless, a departure remains conceivable, especially if a financially attractive offer comes from a Saudi club and convinces the Manchester management.
