Saint-Étienne: Steve Mounié will not be joining

Recently linked insistently with Saint-Étienne, Steve Mounié will ultimately not be joining Les Verts. The matter, barely discussed, was quickly closed.

According to our information, the main obstacle is the Beninese striker's salary. Steve Mounié's monthly wage, estimated at just over €200,000, is simply out of reach for a club relegated to Ligue 2. ASSE is eager to strengthen its attacking line, and the name of the Parakou-born forward—experienced, powerful, and well-known in Ligue 1—was certainly tempting. But the financial equation proved too heavy for the Foréziens.

Used sparingly this season in the Bundesliga (1 goal in 16 appearances), the Cheetahs' captain is currently enjoying his vacation. But behind the scenes, his entourage is already hard at work. The objective: to find him a credible exit route to get back to regular playing time as soon as the new season starts. However, another option has entered the fray. FC Augsburg, his club until 2027, has just appointed a new coach: Sandro Wagner.

This arrival could change the game. Mounié's camp is now considering starting preseason training under the German manager before making a final decision. The big question remains: will the new coach count on him or not?
