Semi Ajayi released by his club
The story between Semi Ajayi and West Bromwich Albion has officially come to an end. The English club has confirmed the departure of the Nigerian centre-back upon the expiration of his contract, marking the close of a six-season chapter.
Arriving in 2019 from Rotherham United, Semi Ajayi quickly established himself as a cornerstone of the Baggies’ backline. Strong in duels, dominant in the air, and invaluable thanks to his reading of the game, he was one of the team’s pillars during their return to the Premier League in the 2019/2020 season. In total, the Nigerian international featured in 177 matches for West Brom.
But the final season proved more challenging. Hampered by hamstring injuries, Semi Ajayi took part in only 15 Championship matches. At 30, the former Arsenal Academy graduate is now a free agent. Nevertheless, he still commands respect both in England and across the continent, and could well find a new project where his experience and leadership will be highly sought after.
