In a headline-making transfer this summer window, Moroccan wonderkid Abdellah Ouazane (16) has decided to leave Ajax Amsterdam and join Real Madrid, despite determined efforts by the Dutch club to keep hold of him.

Developed at Ajax since the age of seven, Ouazane quickly climbed the ranks to the U17 side, establishing himself as one of the most promising prospects in the academy. Although negotiations for his first professional contract began last September, the player ultimately opted to sign with the Spanish giants.

According to ESPN, Ouazane has officially informed Ajax management of his decision. Not even a personal call from new coach John Heitinga, who outlined the club’s long-term plans for him, was enough to sway him to stay.

Impressed by his standout displays at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations—where he lifted the trophy with Morocco in April and was named player of the tournament—Real Madrid moved swiftly. The club presented him with a clear project, with plans for him to soon join Real Madrid Castilla, their reserve team.

Barcelona were interested too, but Madrid won the race

The Spanish sports daily Marca reports that FC Barcelona was also in the hunt to sign Ouazane. However, Real Madrid managed to act faster and more convincingly, sealing the deal.

Ouazane’s contract with Ajax expires this month. He will sign a three-year deal with Real Madrid, while Ajax will receive a training compensation fee for his departure.
