Stade Rennais: Mikayil Faye set for a summer exit
Arriving from FC Barcelona in the summer of 2024, Mikayil Faye harbored high ambitions when he joined Roazhon Park. The centre-back, then regarded as one of Senegal's brightest football prospects, had signed a four-year deal with the Breton club. But the season quickly turned complicated, with recurring injuries, a lack of match rhythm, and underwhelming performances in Ligue 1.
Habib Beye, the new head coach of Stade Rennais, has handed Mikayil Faye just two league appearances since taking charge. The more experienced Lilian Brassier has been preferred at the heart of defense, increasing the frustration of the young Senegalese, who has struggled to make his mark in the squad.
The situation became clearer earlier this week when the Rennes management officially decided to part ways with Mikayil Faye during the upcoming summer transfer window. According to multiple specialist outlets, the player is no longer part of the club’s sporting plans and will need to seek a new challenge to revive his career. A permanent departure is favored, though a loan deal is still possible if no suitable offers reach Rennes.
Mikayil Faye's market value, estimated at around €8 million, could prove a stumbling block for some clubs, especially since the defender has not had the chance to fully showcase his talent in Brittany. Nonetheless, German clubs—including Bayer Leverkusen, who already showed interest in the last winter transfer window—could reignite their pursuit this summer.
