Steve Mounié will soon decide his future at Augsburg
Exclusive
A year after his arrival in the Bundesliga, Steve Mounié faces an uncertain future at FC Augsburg. Sparingly used this season (17 appearances, 1 goal, 1 assist), the Beninese striker hasn’t made the impact that was hoped for. This situation is prompting both the player and the club to consider alternative options for the upcoming campaign.
Already targeted by Cologne during the last winter transfer window, Mounié remains on the radar of the newly promoted German side. Augsburg, for its part, is not opposed to a loan, provided a destination can be found where the striker can regain his rhythm and confidence.
But there is also the temptation of a return to Ligue 1. Nantes, Lens, and Reims have all shown real interest. For Mounié, it would be a chance to return to a league he knows well and where he has already excelled. However, the player himself appears to have another idea in mind: Serie A.
The native of Parakou sees this as a rare achievement. Playing in Italy would make him the first Beninese footballer to compete in all four of Europe’s top leagues. It would be a symbolic milestone for a consistent and respected striker. His camp is already exploring opportunities with this objective in mind.
Under contract until June 2027, Steve Mounié is still weighing his options. But at 30, he needs playing time and the right environment. His decision, expected in the coming weeks, will be pivotal for the next chapter of his top-flight career.
