The Congo Eagles: leaders fall to Motema Pembe!
The headline clash of the 8th round of the Congolese Linafoot play-offs swung in favor of Daring Club Motema Pembe, who handed out a resounding 3-1 defeat to league leaders The Congo Eagles on Sunday at Stade des Martyrs. It was a spectacular encounter where intensity, determination, and clinical finishing all tipped the balance toward the 'Immaculés.'
Matobo opened the scoring as early as the 4th minute for the Eagles, capitalizing on a defensive error.
Dominant in the opening stages, the Samurais looked set for a strong showing thanks to impressive team play orchestrated by Matobo, Biyeye, and Linda. But DCMP refused to be cowed.
A one-sided second half
The turning point came in the 18th minute, when Bingi Bello leveled the score after high pressing from the Immaculés.
After the break, DCMP took command. From a corner, Arsène Gomez rose unmarked to head home the second goal (55’). The Eagles, running out of answers, were left reeling.
In the 75th minute, Mira Kalonji sealed the match once and for all with a thunderous strike from 30 meters out (3-1).
DCMP now surge back with 13 points from 8 games, while the Eagles, stuck on 18, see their lead at the top of the table start to dwindle.
