Transfer market: OM moves to sign Alexander Djiku

Facing a shaky backline this season, with 43 goals conceded in 31 matches, Olympique de Marseille is actively seeking to shore up its defense and regain the stability crucial for its European ambitions. In this pursuit, the Marseille club has identified Alexander Djiku as a prime target.

The 30-year-old center-back currently plays for Fenerbahçe and brings a wealth of experience. Trained in France, the Ghanaian international knows Ligue 1 inside out, having previously donned the shirts of Bastia, Caen, and Strasbourg—a definite asset that makes him even more appealing to Marseille.

According to sources, Marseille is preparing an offer in the region of €5 to €7.5 million to persuade Fenerbahçe to let Alexander Djiku go. Medhi Benatia, OM's sporting advisor, is reported to have already spoken to the Ghanaian. Club president Pablo Longoria appears determined to seal this deal and provide Roberto De Zerbi with a more reliable and competitive defensive unit.

Meanwhile, other reports indicate that Fenerbahçe's manager, José Mourinho, is reluctant to part ways with one of his most dependable defenders. The Turkish club's management is hoping to secure a satisfactory fee for the player's release. Notably, Rennes and several other European clubs are closely monitoring the Ghanaian defender's situation.
