Transfer market: This U20 Africa Cup of Nations champion is close to joining Strasbourg

Ligue 1 is on the verge of welcoming the top scorer of the 2023 U20 Africa Cup of Nations. While he has been on the radar of Union Saint-Gilloise and several Turkish clubs, Pape Demba Diop is reported to have chosen RC Strasbourg to continue his career.

After an impressive season with Zulte Waregem, champions of the Belgian second division and newly promoted to the top flight, the Senegalese midfielder is now set to experience French football. Comfortable both as a box-to-box midfielder and as a holding midfielder in front of the defense, Pape Demba Diop made a significant impact for his club, scoring 6 goals and providing 6 assists in 28 matches during the 2024/2025 Challenger Pro League campaign.

Trained at the Diambars academy in Senegal, the 21-year-old midfielder moved to Belgium in 2022 on a six-year contract. With three years left on his deal, Pape Demba Diop has seen his stock rise and is now ready to take the next step in his development at a club undergoing transformation.
