Transfer window: Nayef Aguerd tops OM’s summer priority list!

It looks like Nayef Aguerd’s career is set to take a new turn in the upcoming summer transfer window. The 29-year-old Moroccan centre-back has now caught the eye of several major European clubs, with Olympique de Marseille leading the chase.

According to information revealed by journalist Santi Aouna for Foot Mercato, Aguerd has decided to leave West Ham this summer. This intention stands firm despite interest from Real Sociedad, who are keen to extend his loan or sign him permanently after a successful season in La Liga.

A return to Ligue 1 with Olympique Marseille?

Arriving at Real Sociedad in the final hours of last summer’s transfer window on a loan deal with no option to buy, Aguerd quickly established himself in the starting eleven. He played 36 matches across all competitions, starting 34 of them, despite suffering an injury at the end of the season.

His solid performances haven’t gone unnoticed by scouts. Several clubs are looking to bolster their defence, and Olympique de Marseille have reportedly made the Moroccan their top target as part of their new project, with an eye on the next Champions League campaign.

The same sources indicate that OM have already made contact with the player’s entourage. The Phocaean club is counting on Aguerd’s Ligue 1 experience, having previously played for Dijon and Stade Rennais.

But the operation won’t be simple: ambitious sides like Bayer Leverkusen, Atlético Madrid, and Real Sociedad are also in the running.

It’s worth noting that the Moroccan defender’s current market value is estimated at €25 million, according to Transfermarkt.
