Transfer window: Paul Onuachu on the verge of a return to Trabzonspor
Paul Onuachu is set to leave Southampton for a permanent move back to Trabzonspor, the club where he shone in the 2023-24 season. Negotiations between Southampton and the Turkish side are at an advanced stage, and a deal for the Nigerian forward appears to be imminent.
After a disappointing campaign in England, Paul Onuachu is ready to turn the page. The 31-year-old striker, still under contract with Southampton, failed to find his usual scoring touch in the Premier League, recording only 4 goals and one assist in 28 appearances. This output stands in stark contrast to his standout performances in Belgium and, more recently, during his loan spell at Trabzonspor in 2023-2024, where he made a huge impact with 17 goals and 4 assists in just 25 matches.
Impressed by his previous stint, the Turkish club now wants to secure him on a permanent basis. Talks between the two management teams have helped narrow the financial gap.
"Paul Onuachu is part of our transfer plans. We are in contact with him and working to finalize the deal. I hope we will reach an agreement soon," confirmed Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan.
Negotiations are pointing towards a transfer fee in the region of €4.5 to €5 million, with a three-year contract in the works for the player. Onuachu's desire to return to Trabzon, where his family thrived, is also a key factor speeding up the deal's completion.
