Transfer window: Steve Mounié heading to Saint-Étienne?

Mohamed Toubache-Ter dropped a sensational rumor there: AS Saint-Étienne is reportedly considering a loan for the Beninese striker from FC Augsburg. At 30, Steve Mounié is going through a rough patch. Having arrived in Germany in the summer of 2024, he never truly found his footing. One goal, one assist, and a fair share of frustration. Yet, his profile remains enticing: 1.89 meters tall, strong with his back to goal, experienced, and a real aerial threat.

A former Montpellier, Nîmes, and Brest player, Mounié knows French football inside out. He also knows what it demands. And even in Ligue 2, he has what it takes to make a difference. ASSE’s relegation could offer him exactly what he’s looking for: regular playing time and a central role in a clear project. A permanent transfer seems out of reach, as his contract with Augsburg runs until 2027. But a loan? That’s much more realistic. One to watch.
