UEFA has officially decided to ban FK Turan from participating in next season’s Conference League. Although the club finished third in the Azerbaijani league, it will not be allowed to compete in the qualifiers.

The club from Tovuz delivered a remarkable season, finishing behind Sabah and Qarabağ, but this achievement will not open the doors to Europe for them this year. UEFA’s decision is linked to past corruption cases involving certain players from the club.

A few years ago, seven FK Turan players were suspended for involvement in match-fixing, leading the European organization to exclude the club. FK Turan has announced that it will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but its chances of overturning the sanction appear slim. If the decision stands, the club likely to take FK Turan’s place in the Conference League will be Zira, who finished fifth in the league.
