UEFA Youth League: Ibrahim Diarra, the Malian hero of Barça!

FC Barcelona can thank its new Malian gem! On Monday in Nyon, in the 2025 Youth League final, Ibrahim Diarra dazzled the match with his talent, leading the Blaugrana to a resounding victory against Trabzonspor (4-1).

Scoring two goals and providing an assist, the young Malian winger established himself as one of the key architects of this triumph. Video:

A meteoric rise at La Masia

Arriving at La Masia in December 2024 from Africa Foot, Diarra quickly charmed the Catalan staff.

His progression has been impressive: a few minutes against Aston Villa in the round of 16, a bit more time against Stuttgart in the quarter-finals, then nearly an hour in the semi-final against AZ Alkmaar. Until he logically established himself as a starter in this final under the guidance of Juliano Belletti, a former hero of the 2006 Champions League.

At just 18 years old, the child from Bamako has become in a few months one of the engines of the U19 group.

A raw talent serving Mali and Barça

Affectionately nicknamed “Kaka” for his technical finesse and ability to make a difference with his ball control, Ibrahim Diarra had already made a name for himself during the U17 World Cup in 2023.

His composure, game intelligence, and scoring sense made the difference in the final. His success in the Youth League is not just a personal achievement: it's also a promise for Malian football, which could see the rise of a future leader.

As for Barça, this triumph confirms its commitment to continue betting on African talents to build its future.
